Ona B. Morford Anderson
Ona B. Morford Anderson, 91, of Bisbee, AZ, formerly of Fultonville, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25,2014, in Sierra Vista, AZ, following a lingering illness. Mrs. Anderson was born August 1, 1922, in Broadalbin, NY, daughter of William H. and Daisy Brown Brooks. She was educated in Glen’s one-room school and Fultonville High School. After a year at Cobleskill College, she married John A. Morford in 1940. He predeceased her in 1971.
Ona worked for the ration board during WWII. Upon John’s return from WWII, Ona became a loving mother of two. She was a gracious hostess and assisted John in Morford’s Antiques and Auctions. Ona was active in Fultonville Reformed Church, PTA, Antler’s Country Club, Fultonville Women’s Bridge group, the Schenectady Antique Dealer’s Association and many other local activities.
In 1974 Ona married Albert Anderson, who predeceased her in 1985. They moved together to Sun City, AZ, after their marriage and led an full social life as Sun City seniors. In 1983 they moved to Bisbee, AZ, to be near family. She led a very active life. She participated in the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum and the Chamber of Commerce. She has been active in a philanthropic group known as PEO.
Ona has not been as active outside the home for the past few years, but her house was always open to entertain friends. Meetings, lunches, and picnics at her home were a joy for many of her friends. She was witty, intelligent and sharp to the end.
Survivors include her son, Peter Morford of Texas; daughter, Merry Beth Grindahl of California; 3 grandsons, Jon Morford of Washington, Timothy Morford of upstate NY, Peter Gibson of Texas; and 2 great-grandsons, Tyr and Leif Morford. Her longtime friend and companion, T. Blair Phinney, also survives her.
Services to celebrate her life, were held at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014. Expressions of sympathy in her name may be made to Fultonville Reformed Church, Fultonville, NY, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Bisbee, AZ, or the PEO educational scholarship program.
