Ross Harold Higier

Ross Harold Higier of Gloversville, New York and Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on April 27th, of complications from pneumonia.

He was born on July 9, 1923, in New York City but moved to Gloversville when he was nine years old. The only child of Jules and Edna Higier, Ross attended and graduated from Worchester Academy, Dartmouth College and Tuck Business School. After graduating with honors, Ross enlisted in the Navy. He was sent to Harvard Business School and then deployed to the South Pacific on a destroyer escort where he rose to the rank of lieutenant commander.

After the war, Ross returned to Gloversville and began his long and distinguished career at Crescendoe and Superb Glove companies. He eventually became president employing over 3,000 workers in factories throughout the world.

He was extremely active in community affairs. He was elected to head the United Way Board and the UJA drive, president of the Jewish Community Center, on the Board of the City National Bank and Trust Company, and the Knesseth Israel Synagogue. He was also appointed as a New York State GOP Committee member and attended the inauguration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was also an officer and board member of the Pinebrook County Club and a board member of the Gloversville Chamber of Commerce.

He was married to the absolute love of his life, the former Dorene Schine for 64 years and they had three wonderful children, Donna, Thomas (and wife Kathy) and Louis. He was fortunate in life to have had seven grandchildren whom he had very special relationships with.

Ross died peacefully in his Boca Raton home with his wife by his side. He was 90 years young.
