Motorist helps cops nab driver: police

GLOVERSVILLE – A city man was arrested for driving while intoxicated this morning after another motorist witnessed him strike a stop sign and reported his location, police said.

James H. Pratt, 53, of 68 Third Ave., was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI with a blood-alcohol content 0.18 percent or higher and open container in a motor vehicle.

Police said a motorist witnessed Pratt strike a stop sign at the intersection of Yale Street and Second Avenue.

The motorist followed Pratt and told authorities Pratt’s direction of travel so officers could locate and stop him, police said.

During an interview, police said, it was determined Pratt was intoxicated and he was placed under arrest after failing field sobriety tests. Pratt later submitted to a chemical test that showed his BAC was 0.22 percent, police said.

Pratt was also found to have an open bottle of beer in his vehicle at the time of the stop, police said.

Police said Pratt is being held for arraignment.
