Robert G. Cetnar

Mr. Robert G. Cetnar, 68, of Hagaman Avenue, Hagaman, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at his residence.

A lifelong area resident, he was born February 22, 1946, a son of the late Jacob and Mary Gresizk Cetnar. He was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School-Class of 1964. He attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College from 1969-70. He then attended Schenectady County Community College from 1970-1973 in the GE Apprentice Program, receiving his A.A.S. degree in Management Engineering Technology.

Bob served in the Air Force from 1964-1968 as a Master Sergeant. He also served in the reserve for many years and also served in the Air National Guard for several years.

Mr. Cetnar was employed by the General Electric Company in the Large Motor and Generator Department as a warranty specialist and later as a field service represnetative before retiring in 2008.

He will long be remembered for his support of sport activities. He served as the Hagaman Youth Commission Director for many years. He coached Hagaman Little League and helped maintain the ball fields. He was the proud coach of Hagaman Blue and later coached American Legion Ball. He supported all local sports. In his younger years, he enjoyed fast pitch softball.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church. He was a member and presently the commander of John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701, and was a member of the Polish-American Veterans.

He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Vila on May 8. 1965. She passed away on December 17, 2003. He was also predeceased by his grandaughter; Megan Smith; step-mother Charlotte Cetnar; and most recently by his mother-in-law, Mary E. Vila on March 28, 2014.

He is survived by his children Tammy Lynn Smith, Broadalbin, N.Y., Damien Robert (Shannon) Cetnar, Scotia, N.Y. , Brenden Wade (Adrianne) Cetnar, Hagaman, N.Y., Garret Lee (Sarah) Cetnar, Schenectady, N.Y. and Kyle Cetnar, Town of Amsterdam; seven grandchildren, Amanda Brittany (Nick) Pawling, Dillon Smith, Amber Cetnar, Emily Cetnar, Katie Cetnar, Samuel Cetnar and Liam Cetnar; expected great-grandchild Greta Pawling; brothers Richard Cenar and Donald (Kathy) Cetnar, both of Perth, New York, and Raymond (Kathy) Cetnar, Amsterdam, N.Y.; sister-in-law Patricia (Bob) Raczynski; nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service will be held at 8:15 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Jendrzejxzak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 9:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church with Rev. O. Robert De Martinis, celebrant. Interment with military honors will be at Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014,at the funderal home with the American Legion service at 6:00 p.m..
