Man holds woman, cuts her hair: police

JOHNSTOWN – A city man was jailed over the weekend after police accused him of assaulting, imprisoning and threatening to kill a woman, and using a knife to cut off her hair.

Police said Joseph S. Banovic, 39, of 313 W. Clinton St., was charged with first-degree unlawful imprisonment, third-degree assault and second-degree menacing.

Police said he was charged after a family dispute at 2:30 a.m. Saturday at 313 W. Fulton St. He was arrested at 3:39 p.m. Sunday on Route 5S in Fultonville.

An investigation revealed Banovic forcefully held his victim and cut off her hair with a knife, police said. He threatened to kill her if she tried to leave the residence, police said. He also injured her by slamming her into a wall, police said.

Banovic was arraigned in City Court and sent to the Fulton County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $25,000 bond to reappear in court later.
