H.S. Baseball Roundup: Wells picks up win in season opener

INDIAN LAKE – Seth Weaver pitched a no-hitter to lead Wells to a 9-0 win over Indian Lake-Long Lake in a Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference baseball game Tuesday.

Weaver struck out 20 and walked none on his way to the complete-game victory.

Ben Brenan was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and a run scored for Wells (1-0 overall, 1-0 MVAC), while Adrian Collado was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Ty Earley was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Indians, who finished with 13 hits.

Shaw struck out 14 on his way to the complete-game victory.

Anthony Sinicropi had a triple and an RBI for the Braves, while Lucas Calkins had a double. Pat Hart and Shaw each had a single and an RBI for FFCS, while Zack Valachovic and Baylee Hall each had singles.

James Griffin had a double for Watervliet (0-5 overall, 0-3 Colonial), while Mike O’Donnell had a single.

SCOTIA – One day after getting coach Craig Phillips his 700th win, Fort Plain pushed the number to 701 with a win over Mekeel Christian Academy.

Jesse Heroth improved to 3-0 on the mound for the Hilltoppers and had two singles, a double, two runs scored and six RBIs at the plate.

Drew Fureno had three singles, two RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases for Fort Plain (5-0 overall, 4-0 WAC), while Cody Logan and Aiden VanLoan each had two singles.

Rhein Zeronda had two singles and an RBI for Mekeel Christian Academy.
