FMCC baseball splits with Mohawk Valley

UTICA – The Fulton-Montgomery Community College baseball team split a doubleheader at Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday at Murnane Field. FMCC won the first game, 3-2, and MVCC won the second game, 6-5.

In the first game, Christian Maldonado (Troy) pitched a complete game for FMCC, scattering six MVCC hits.

Catcher Andrew Houser (Wynantskill) went 1-for-3 and drove in a run, while designated hitter Dennis Buckley (Colonie) went 2-for-3 and drove in a run.

In the second game, Buckley went 1-for-2 and drove in a run for the Raiders, while Shawn Strong (Oriskany Falls) went 1-for-1 and drove in a run.

Both teams are striving for postseason berths in the Region 3 tournament. Four teams from Eastern New York will be eligible. At this time, both FMCC (8-4 in region) and MVCC (6-4 in region) have good shots at being in that final four. Postseason play is set to begin May 11.
