GLOVERSVILLE – The regular meeting of the Ida L. McGinnis Club was called to order by President Arla Fonda at 1:30 p.m. April 8. The opening hymn was “God Bless America.” Chaplain, Betty Gugenberger read a selection titled, “Springtime Art” and led in “The Lord’s Prayer.” Arla Fonda led the Pledge of Allegiance and the salute to the flag. There were 47 members present.
Jeanette Fonda gave the sunshine report. The reports of the secretary and treasurer were accepted as read.
Under old business, members were reminded reservations and money for the club’s annual banquet May 6 at Harold’s Restaurant and Lounge are due by Tuesday. Linda Zilka announced the middle school bingo party for seniors is at 12:30 p.m. May 3. More information on future trips to Turning Stone Casino will be forthcoming, a news release said.
Under new business: After a discussion, a motion was made to acknowledge members reaching the age of 90 and each five years thereafter with a gift of Chamber Checks. This would apply to active members only. Active members are those who attend at least six meetings per year. Passed by a majority, this will go into effect as soon as the secretary compiles the list of those eligible.
The nominating committee presented the slate of officers for 2014-16, who are: Jeannie McDuffie, president; Kate VanAlstyne, vice president; Elaine Boyd, secretary; Ann Witherell, assistant secretary; Zilka, treasurer; June Parker, assistant treasurer; Gugenberger, chaplain; Lucy Ostrander, assistant chaplain. Shirley Frederick cast a single ballot on behalf of the group to elect this slate. These officers will be installed at the annual banquet.
The 50-50 winners were: Kristie Brooks, Witherell, Betty Robbs, and Ruth Gavin. Mary King won a handmade shopping bag holder made by Pal Hood.
The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served. Frederick called bingo. The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday at the Forest Hill Towers.
