B-P cheerleading team brings home national title
BROADALBIN – Broadalbin-Perth Central School District’s competitive cheerleading team won a national championship in the Small Varsity Non-Tumbling Division at the Eastern Cheer and Dance national competition in Williamsburg, Va., on April 6.
Each team member received a medal, and the team brought home a trophy and banner.
The team performed for score on two days; the better of the two scores was used to determine awards and placements.
Teams had to score at least 70 percent in order to earn the national champion title; Broadalbin-Perth’s team scored 80 percent.
B-P also won an award for the best crowd-leading cheer.
Members of the Broadalbin-Perth competitive cheerleading team are seniors Chelsea Bonaker, Kayleigh McGrath, Karli Pikor, Jordan Price and Megan Stewart; juniors Brittney McGrath and Brianna Panasiuk; sophomores Amber Benware, Chelsea McKeever, Casey Slater and Julia Tonks; freshman Victoria Laurange; and seventh-grader Jasmine Riley.
