Woman charged with grand larceny

GLEN – An Amsterdam woman was arrested for withdrawing money from a savings account that did not belong to her, state police said.

Kerry Ann Ellis, 31, of Amsterdam was charged March 20 with third-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies.

Police said troopers received a complaint in January about multiple unauthorized transactions from a joint savings account at MCT Federal Credit Union. Police said the two people with the account did not authorize the transactions or know anyone named on the withdrawal.

A subpoena was mailed to PayPal’s legal department, police said. PayPal eventually responded by sending “pertinent” information via email, police said.

“Subsequent to Miranda, Ellis provided a statement alleging the matter to be a misunderstanding, or an error on PayPal’s part,” police said.

Ellis was issued a ticket and scheduled to appear in Mohawk Town Court.
