Police: Man stole guns, credit card

BROADALBIN – Police said a local man stole guns from a relative’s home and was seen on video using the homeowner’s credit card.

State police arrested Nicholas N. Gathen, 19, of Broadalbin, charging him March 25 with burglary, a felony.

Police said the daughter of a homeowner contacted police March 15 when she checked on the home and Gathen and some of his friends inside. Gathen is the woman’s nephew, police said.

On March 19, the homeowner told police a credit card company advised the homeowner of suspicious activity on her card. Police were given dates, times and places the credit cards were used and identified Nick Gathen on surveillance video.

Police said seven guns also were missing from the home – six long guns and a muzzleloader pistol.

Gathen was arraigned in Town Court and sent to the Fulton County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond. He was scheduled to reappear in court.
