Police: Man left scene of Broadalbin accident

BROADALBIN – State police early Saturday charged a 33-year-old Broadalbin man with felony driving while intoxicated and other counts after the man left the scene of an accident, police said in a news release.

Police said Robert M. Cannizzaro was involved in a hit-and-run accident with his pickup truck on Ridge Road.

While en route to Ridge Road, troopers spotted the pickup truck on Route 29 and stopped it, police said. When approaching the pickup truck, troopers noticed it was severely damaged and covered in tree debris, police said.

Cannizzaro admitted he drank four to five beers before the accident, police said.

Troopers charged Cannizzaro with felony DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, and several other vehicle and traffic violations.

Cannizzaro was arraigned Saturday in Broadalbin Village Court and remanded to the Fulton County Jail, police said.

Police gave no description of the accident in the news release and did not say whether anyone was injured.
