Julia Ann Voorhees
Julia Ann Voorhees, 82, passed peacefully at home on Thursday, March 27, 2014.
She was born on May 12, 1931, in Johnstown, the daughter of Pauline Masarik-Roberts and Henry S. Billa Sr., stepdaughter of William Roberts. She attended Johnstown High School and received her GED in 1969. She married Leslie H. Voorhees on September 7, 1950. She retired from Golub Corporation in 1994. “Judy” was a longtime resident of Fonda until 2011, when she moved to Northville. She was a member of the Shirley Luck Sr. Center, Johnstown Moose and Sacandaga Seniors. Judy loved playing cards, going to the casino, and being with her family. She was a strong woman who had many challenges throughout her life and always moved forward and overcame. She had a great sense of humor, was always a good sport and had a kind and generous heart. Given the right settings she could be quite the stitch!
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leslie; sons, Richard and Leslie; brothers, Edward and Robert Billa; sisters, Betty Hall, Louise Pavlik, Dolores Miller, Helen Riska, and Hattie Billa (who died as an infant). Judy is survived by her brother, Henry “Hank” Billa and her daughters, Diane Stangle (William) and Janie Giblin (Paul); daughter-in-law, Vicky; grandchildren, Tony Voorhees, Rebecca Giblin, Michael Giblin, and Amanda Giblin; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Hailey, Kevin, Azlina, Kaylyn, and Lucas; and loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and many family friends.
Judy has made an anatomical donation and burial arrangements will be made at a later date. A memorial service at Auriesville Shrine will be announced. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs.
