McGinnis Club reports on meeting

GLOVERSVILLE – The Ida L. McGinnis Club met Tuesday at the Forest Hill Towers.

Arla Fonda called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. The meeting opened with the hymn, “Abide With Me” accompanied by Doris Dingman; followed by the flag salute and the Pledge of Allegiance. Betty Gugenberger led devotions with the poem, “A Walk in Springtime” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” There were 50 members present. The reports of the secretary and treasurer were read and accepted. Jeanette Fonda gave the sunshine report.

Shirley Frederick was welcomed back from a trip out west and Cindy Gauthier was welcomed as a guest.

Under old business: Due to the lack of participation, the April 22, trip to The Beeches has been cancelled.

The club’s next event will be the annual banquet at 1 p.m. May 6, at Harold’s. The Betty Green Chorus will provide the entertainment. The decorating committee for the banquet will be: Arla Fonda, Connie Simonds and June Parker.

The new slate of officers will be installed. The nominating committee presented the following slate: Jeannie McDuffie, president; Kay VanAlstyne, vice president; Elaine Boyd, secretary; Ann Witherell, assistant secretary; Linda Zilka, treasurer; Parker, assistant treasurer; Carol Lowery or Gugenberger, chaplain. These nominations will be voted on during April. Anyone who would like to be on the slate can ask prior to election.

The refreshment committee for April is: Sandy Yacabuchi, McDuffie, and Millie Garguilo.

There are still openings on the April 15, Turning Stone trip. For information and reservations, call McDuffie at 725-8396

The club will be hosting a bingo party at 1 p.m. June 10, at the Forest Hill Towers. Each member will be required to buy one ticket.

The 50-50 winners were Angie Ruggeri, Charlie Mae Jones, Pal Hood, Linda Thompson and Arla Fonda. Dorothy Roy won a shopping bag holder made by Hood.

The meeting adjourned, refreshments were served and Roy called bingo.

The next meeting will be Tuesday at Forest Hill Towers.
