Man charged with public lewdness
JOHNSTOWN – A Northville man was charged by city police Wednesday in connection with an incident last weekend at the Johnstown Mall in which he made a masturbating gesture in front of a woman and her daughter.
Police said Nelson H. Peters, 48, of 17 S. Main St., was charged at 11:15 p.m. in Gloversville with misdemeanor public lewdness and trespassing, a violation.
Police said the charges stem from an incident Sunday afternoon in an aisle at the Yankee Dollar Store. Police said Peters had his hand inside the front of his sweat pants, making a masturbating gesture in front of a female store patron and her 12-year-old daughter.
The trespassing charge was lodged because Peters received a March 12 letter from the mall informing him he was no longer allowed on the property due to past unruly behavior, police said.
Peters was arraigned in City Court and released in lieu of $1,000 cash bail to reappear later.
