Store in city robbed

GLOVERSVILLE – The city Police Department is seeking the public’s help with finding a man who robbed the Lukoil Mini Mart on Main Street with a box cutter early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Police Chief Donald VanDeusen said a heavy-set white man with facial hair, standing approximately 6 feet tall, entered the gas station with a box cutter around 6:25 a.m. Wednesday and demanded money from the clerk.

He said officers were dispatched to Lukoil at 394 N. Main St. at 6:28 a.m.

The chief said no one was injured during the incident, and the unidentified man left the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

VanDeusen said cash was all that was taken from the store during the incident. He said the man, estimated to be about 40 years old, was wearing blue jeans and a dark hoodie with the hood pulled over his head and face.

The chief said the man fled on foot heading south either toward South Main Street or East Eleventh Avenue.

“We are currently following several leads and we’re waiting to view and analyze any and all video surveillance,” VanDeusen said.

He said once the surveillance is reviewed, the department may release a picture so people can help identify the man.

According to a news release, Kingsborough School and area businesses were notified and the area was canvassed by officers and detectives without recovering further evidence.

The department is asking anyone who may have been in the area around that time or may have information about the incident to call Detective Joe Kadle at 773-4502, the Detective Division general number at 773-4505, or the sergeant’s desk after hours at 773-4506.
