Martha Persico

Martha Persico, born Martha Mary D’Errico, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 15, 2014, at the Sunset Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center in Venice, Florida after a decade-long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was 92 years old. Martha was born on August 19, 1921, in Gloversville, New York to a family of eleven brothers and sisters. Martha met her husband, Charlie Persico, after he returned from World War II at a USO dance in Gloversville. They were married on October 5, 1947. Martha worked for many years as a glovemaker at various shops in Gloversville. Martha loved to sit in the sun at the beach, and was able to spend her winters for 25 years at her family’s place in the Cayman Islands. Martha will be most remembered for her great cooking, her infectious smile and her role as a phenomenal caregiver to many members of both her family and her husband’s family. The daily coffee hour at Martha’s kitchen was always the center of many friends’ and family members’ social lives. She was a great role model for motherhood and selfless giving. Martha is survived by her three children, Marie Hermes (Tom, husband), Catherine Giarrizzo (Edward, husband) and Charles Persico; her two grandchildren, Thomas Hermes (Kristin, wife) and Karen Lakiotis (George, husband); her siblings, Antoinette Sena, Peter D’Errico, Jennie Palmieri, and Angeline Budinscak; and many nieces and nephews.
