Highway employees deserve better

In response to the letter to the editor, “Other areas to cut in town”: Kelly is right on the mark here. The town of Johnstown Highway employees unselfishly work long hours in the winter to ensure our highways are open and safe. How can the board think they could possibly accomplish that without overtime? Mother Nature doesn’t schedule her weather conditions.

As a former 30 year resident of Meco, I can tell you it was a welcome sight to see the plow/sand truck come down our road so we could go to work or the children could get to school during harsh winter weather that is normal for our area.

The Town Board ought to wake up and look elsewhere to cut costs. Our town highway employees deserve better.
