Teacher placed on leave in Gloversville

GLOVERSVILLE – A teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave while the Gloversville Enlarged School District investigates complaints regarding the teacher’s conduct in school, a news release said.

Superintendent Michael Vanyo declined this morning to provide the teacher’s name because of the investigation.

However, sources said the teacher placed on leave is special education teacher Bill Decker.

In the release, Vanyo said he put the teacher on leave Thursday after reports the teacher acted unprofessionally and inappropriately in the presence of both teachers and students. Initial complaints came from students, Vanyo said, and were based on the teacher’s conduct while acting in an advisory role, not in a classroom setting.

The tenured teacher will remain on paid leave during the school district’s internal investigation, the release said.

The district has been in contact with the city Police Department, but at this time, there is no criminal investigation, the release said.
