Man indicted on drug charges

JOHNSTOWN – A Gloversville man who police said possessed cocaine with intent to sell last summer was recently indicted by a Fulton County grand jury on three counts.

Freddie J. Barksdale, 38, of 19 Market St. was indicted on counts of: felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Gloversville police charged Barksdale on Aug. 30. City and state police executed a search warrant at Barksdale’s address, where investigators and detectives found cocaine, marijuana and equipment used to package and weigh the drugs for sale, police said at the time.

The indictment indicates Barksdale possessed 600 milligrams of cocaine with “intent to sell it.” The indictment also accused the defendant of possessing a tablet of Benzylpiperazine, a stimulant.

In other indictments handed by the grand jury:

Ricky F. Mitchell, 34, of 110 Linden Ave., Johnstown, was indicted on counts of: felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

The indictment states Mitchell on Aug. 16 allegedly “intentionally” caused physical injury to a 15-year-old relative by means of a “deadly weapon or dangerous instrument.” The indictment said he struck the teen with a belt and curtain rod, causing physical injury to the victim’s back, arms, legs and buttocks.

Randy J. Hollenbeck, 50, of 2366 Route 29, Johnstown, was indicted on felony counts of: driving while intoxicated and driving with an 0.08 percent or higher blood-alcohol content.

The indictment says he was charged at 11:12 p.m. Dec. 20 after a traffic stop on South Main Street in Gloversville. Police initially charged him with felony DWI and operating a motor vehicle without headlights. The indictment said he had been previously convicted of DWI on Nov. 16, 2009, in Gloversville, which led to the felony DWI.

Brian P. McGuire, 50, of 187 Ridge Road, Amsterdam, was indicted on charges of: driving while intoxicated, driving with an 0.08 percent or higher blood-alcohol content, and felony first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

The indictment states at 7:46 a.m. on April 1, he was in an intoxicated condition on Bellen Road in the town of Mayfield. McGuire also knew his license was suspended or revoked at the time, the indictment said. Court papers said he was previously convicted of driving while ability impaired on April 9, 2009, in the town of Galway.

James E. Anderson, 38, of 117 E. Clinton St., Apartment C, Johnstown, was indicted on counts of felony fourth-degree grand larceny and misdemeanor petit larceny.

The indictment says on Dec. 5 he stole a credit card or debit card from the pocketbook of a patron at Partner’s Pub, 21 S. William St., Johnstown. The indictment also said he stole $100 in cash from the pocketbook.

Cori L. Ostrander, 31, of 340 Hohler Road, Gloversville, was indicted on counts of: felony third-degree burglary and misdemeanor petit larceny.

The indictments says that on Oct. 9, Ostrander entered the Outlet Restaurant at 2401 Route 10, Caroga, with “intent to commit a crime therein.” The indictment said Ostrander stole a case of an unknown brand of beer from the restaurant’s attached garage.
