McGinnis Club plans luncheon

GLOVERSVILLE – The Ida L. McGinnis Club met Tuesday at the Forest Hills Towers. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by President Arla Fonda. Doris Dingman accompanied the group with the opening hymn, “Rock of Ages.” Betty Gugenberger led in “The Lord’s Prayer.” There were 45 members present. Arla Fonda led the flag salute and Pledge of Allegiance. The group sang “America.”

Jeanette Fonda gave the shut-in report.

The secretary’s report was read and corrected. The price of the trip to The Beeches dinner and show should have been stipulated that the $50 price is for members who regularly attend weekly meetings only. All others must pay the $75 cost. All reservations and money for this trip is due by March 25. Linda Zilka gave the treasurer’s report which was accepted as read.

On Tuesday, is the luncheon at the Travers at 1 p.m. and there will be no regular meeting. The group will celebrate St Patrick’s Day with the luncheon. Anyone who needs information and reservations for the Turning Stone trip on March 18, should call McDuffie at 725-8396.

The refreshment committee for March will be Julia Hall, Marjorie Flint and June Parker. For April the refreshment committee will be Millie Garguilo, Fran Garguilo, Jeannie McDuffie and Sandy Yacobucci.

The nominating committee for this year will be Midge DeMagistris, Millie Garguilo and Irene Viola. Anyone interested in holding an office should make their interest known to this committee. The elections will take place during April. The club’s annual banquet will take place May 6, when the officers will be installed.

McDuffie announced to the group that the club could have a speaker from the city to discuss the Comprehensive Plan for Gloversville. This would allow members to raise some of their ideas and get more information with regard to this plan. The group was in favor of this and McDuffie will set up a date.

The club will be holding a bingo party in June with a tentative date of June 10.

The 50-50 winners were Kristy Brooks, Jane Hall, Lucy Ostrander, Millie Garguilo and Kate VanAlstyne.

The closing hymn was “May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You.” The meeting adjourned and the refreshments were served. Dorothy Roy called bingo.
