Stores provide services to community

As 2014 begins, we would like to inform the community about Handy Ups N’ Downs thrift stores located at our new location, 338 N. Comrie Ave. in Johnstown (right next to Udderly Delicious). We were previously located in front of the Johnstown Moose, across from Eagle Chevrolet. Along with our Amsterdam location, at 101 Guy Park Ave., we provide goods and services to both Fulton and Montgomery counties.

Handy Ups N’ Downs thrift stores are a program of the Mental Health Association in Fulton & Montgomery Counties. We are nonprofit thrift stores supported by the generosity of donors from within our communities, with all donations staying local. We offer donation receipts to contributors for tax purposes. We accept and sell gently used clothing for the entire family – along with household merchandise, books, toys, furniture, etc. – at affordable prices.

Along with an ever-changing and exciting assortment of clothing and household merchandise, we also provide services for the community. These services include employment training, as well as work-site locations for Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Board of Cooperative Educational Services and various other agencies within Fulton and Montgomery counties. Handy Ups N’ Downs also is an affirmative business that offers job training to adults with mental illness.

We offer support for individuals and families in need through our voucher redemption services. Through our voucher system, we help grant clothing and household goods to qualifying members of our communities without any cost to them.

We welcome your gently used clothing and household merchandise at both of our locations during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We look forward to serving you.

For questions regarding our acceptance list or any other inquires, please call our Johnstown store at 736-1825 or our Amsterdam store at 842-2790.
