Sample of DNA leads to arrest

JOHNSTOWN – A man was arrested after DNA on a beer can linked him to a burglary in Mayfield, state police said.

Christopher M. Conrad, 18, of Mayfield was charged by state police Feb. 24 with second-degree burglary, a felony.

Police said a trooper received a complaint in November a camp in the town of Mayfield was broken into.

A few bottles of alcohol and cans of beer were stolen, police said. A beer can on the lawn and two pieces of glass from a broken window were secured as evidence, police said.

Police said in December a trooper interviewed two suspects and had them submit DNA samples.

The DNA from the beer can recovered at the camp matched the sample from Conrad, police said.

Conrad was arraigned in Mayfield Town Court and sent to the Fulton County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear in court Tuesday.
