Passat taken without permission: police

WEST SENECA – A Broadalbin woman was arrested after taking a vehicle without permission Tuesday, state police said.

Angela J. Lavallo, 18, of Broadalbin was charged with third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after allegedly taking a Volkswagen Passat without permission from the owner.

Police said through the use of a cellphone “ping,” troopers knew she was headed west on the Thruway and approaching the town of West Seneca, Erie County. A trooper spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at the Lackawanna Toll Barrier, police said.

Lavallo was taken into custody, arraigned in West Seneca Town Court and sent to the Erie County Holding Center on $1,500 bail.

Police said the vehicle will be returned to its owner, a 48-year-old woman who also is a Broadalbin resident.
