Man ran from officers: police

GLOVERSVILLE – A city man led police on a foot pursuit through the city Monday after they attempted to take him into custody on a drug indictment out of Fulton County Court, police said.

Branden Canty, 29, of 77 E. Fulton St., had an indictment from a Fulton County grand jury charging him with criminal possession of controlled substance as well as criminal sale of a controlled substance resulting from a Johnstown Police Department investigation.

Lt. David Gilbo said Canty previously sold cocaine to a confidential informant.

Police said at about 11:30 a.m., officers saw Canty operating a vehicle in the area of Washington Street. Officers stopped the vehicle because they were aware of the indictment against him, police said.

As police were attempting to place Canty under arrest, he resisted and fled on foot, police said.

After the foot pursuit, officers apprehended Canty, who continued to resist, and placed him in custody, authorities said.

He was transported to the station and turned over to Johnstown police on the indictment. Police said Canty also will be charged in City Court with resisting arrest at a later date.
