Program dedicated to Landrio

GLENS FALLS – Don Landrio retired from active coaching in 2009, but he has remained active on the local basketball scene as a member of the Section II Boys Basketball Committee.

His dedication to the sport was recognized by the Section II Committee this year with the dedication of the 2014 championship tournament program to Landrio.

“It is a great honor and truly appreciated,” Landrio said. “It has been a pleasure to work with the guys over the years. It is a family situation. My wife is involved and it is very appreciated.

“I think part of it is I still want to be involved in the game,” he said. “But the people in this organization are hard workers and fun to be with. It has become a family and I enjoy doing what I do.”

Landrio was presented a plaque with the dedication page of the program on it following Saturday’s Class B championship game at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Landrio began his varsity coaching career at Canajoharie, compiling a 60-7 record before coaching the Gloversville Dragons to 350 wins from 1986 to 2009, amassing 410 total victories.

His teams won 11 league championships, two sectional titles and reached the final four in the state tournament twice.

Landrio was elected to the Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Basketball Coaches Association of New York State Hall of Fame in 2011.

Landrio has stayed active on the Section II Committee as the coordinator for scheduling officials for State Regional and Championship Tournaments.
