Undersheriff seeks Assembly seat

FONDA – Montgomery County Undersheriff Pete Vroman was endorsed by the county Republican Committee Saturday in his bid for the 111th state Assembly District.

Vroman?- who recently replaced Undersheriff Jeffrey Smith, who retired and is now the Montgomery County Emergency Management director?- was selected by because of the quality of his character, Montgomery County Republican Chairman Joe Emanuele said.

Vroman also has been in law enforcement since 1982.

“The primary reason for me personally… he has been a public servant for the law enforcement agency all his life,” Emanuele said this morning.

The 111th Assembly District is represented by Angelo Santabarbara, D-Rotterdam.

The committee also announced its support for U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, running for re-election, and congressional hopeful Jim Fischer, who is seeking the seat for New York’s 20th congressional district.

Gibson is seeking re-election in New York’s 19th Congressional District, which comprises the western half of Montgomery County.

Jim Fischer is a candidate for 20th Congressional District, which includes the eastern half of Montgomery County. The district is currently represented by U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam.
