Girls Basketball Roundup: Germantown tops Northville, 49-38

NORTHVILLE – Kasey Griffin scored 16 points to lead Germantown to a 49-38 win over Northville in the first round of the Section II Class D girls basketball tournament Tuesday.

The ninth-seeded Clippers led 10-3 after one quarter before the eighth-seeded Lady Falcons tied the game at 23-23 at the half by outscoring Germantown 20-13 in the second quarter.

Northville took a 33-31 lead into the final quarter, but Germantown outscored the Lady Falcons 18-5 in the fourth quarter.

Keri Hallenbeck and Megan Phelan each finished with 12 points for the Clippers.

Lyndsey Wadsworth scored 14 points to lead Northville, while Charlotte Kalkbrenner and Mary Ryan each had seven points.

Germantown will travel to top-seeded Fort Edward on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. quarterfinal contest.

Northville finished its season with a 7-12 overall record.

Mayfield 47, Waterford-Halfmoon 43

WATERFORD – Sydney Sheldon scored 14 points to lead Mayfield to a win over Waterford-Halfmoon in the first round of the Section II Class C tournament.

Mayfield, the No. 11 seed, trailed 13-6 after one quarter before outscoring the Lady Fordians 11-8 in the second quarter to trail 21-17 at the half.

Mayfield faced a 28-25 deficit after three quarters before outscoring sixth-seeded Waterford 22-15 in the final quarter to earn the win.

Kaylee Bumpus finished with 13 points for the Lady Panthers, while Julie Hampton added nine points.

Carly Brazill and Abby Fountain each scored 11 points for Waterford, while Courtney Gardner added nine points.

Mayfield (11-8 overall) will face third-seeded Greenwich at Maple Hill in Friday’s quarterfinals at 6 p.m.

Waterford finished the season with a 17-2 record.
