Boys Basketball Roundup: Sir Bills lose sectional opener

MECHANICVILLE – Logan Polsinello scored 25 points, leading Mechanicville to a 62-50 win over Johnstown in the first round of the Section II Class B Tournament on Tuesday.

Mike Cannizzo scored 15 points, including a 10-for-12 effort from the free-throw line for fifth-seeded Mechanicville, while C.J. Tironi added 11 points.

Jonathan Heroth and Austin Riska each scored 12 points for 12th-seeded Johnstown, while Jamal Vazquez added eight points.

Mechanicville (15-4 overall) advances to face fourth-seeded Mekeel Christian on Friday at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy at 6:30 p.m. The Lions topped 13th-seeded Fonda-Fultonville, 53-41, in the first round Tuesday.

Johnstown finished the season with a 9-10 overall record.

SCOTIA – Mano Senthil finished with 27 points and five assists, leading fourth-seeded Mekeel Christian Academy to a win over Fonda-Fultonville in the first round of the Class B tournament.

Marquan Newman had eight points and 16 rebounds for the Lions.

Will Turner scored 23 points to lead Fonda-Fultonville, which finished the season with a 9-11 overall record.

Mekeel Christian advances to face fifth-seeded Mechanicville in Friday’s quarterfinals at HVCC at 6:30 p.m.

GREENWICH – John Stewart finished with 20 points, including six 3-pointers, leading fourth-seeded Greenwich to a win over 13th-seeded Fort Plain in the first round of the Section II Class C tournament.

Justin Carruthers scored 18 points for Greenwich, while Lukas Whitehouse added 17 points.

Aiden VanLoan scored 12 points for Fort Plain, while Eric Orologio and Zach Florian each scored eight points.

Greenwich (14-5 overall) will face fifth-seeded Waterford in Friday’s quarterfinals at Shenendehowa High School at 8 p.m.

The Fordians topped 12th-seeded Schoharie, 57-47, on Tuesday.

Fort Plain finished the season with a 10-9 overall record.

LATHAM – Nick Jonas scored 23 points, leading ninth-seeded Northville to a win over eighth-seeded Loudonville Christian in a Section II Class D first-round game at Shaker High School.

Jonas, a senior, connected on five 3-pointers for the Falcons, who outscored Loudonville Christian, 18-7, in the second quarter to take a 33-18 lead at the half.

Danny Reidell scored 13 points for Northville.

Jon Schafer scored 11 points to lead Loudonville Christian, while Jonny Dariano added eight points.

Northville (8-11 overall) will travel to Stillwater High School on Saturday to face top-seeded Argyle at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

Loudonville ends its season with a 9-10 overall record.
