Kathleen Hopes, 96 years young, died Thursday February 13, 2014 at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home.
She was born in the town of Day in 1917 a daughter of Nathan and Myrtle DeLong Kenyon and was a 1935 graduate of Broadalbin High School.
Mrs. Hopes was employed at the Arthur Chalmers estate in Broadalbin for fourteen years and later at Coleco Industries in Amsterdam for many years.
Kathleen was a 50 year member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Miriam class. She was an active member of the Broadalbin Senior Citizens and was a member of the Rebecca Lodge.
She was predeceased by: her loving husband of sixty years, Sheldon; a daughter, Jean Belanger; two brothers, Kenneth and Lewis Kenyon; and a sister, Genevieve Seward.
Survivors include her loving family: a son, Richard Hopes (Alice) of Broadalbin; a daughter, Virginia Neil of Hoosick Falls; a son-in-law, Raymond Belanger of Rensselaer; a sister, Madelene Weiderman (Lester) of Scotia; a brother, Nathan Kenyon (Marion) of Gansevoort; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Route 29 and Black Street) Johnstown, with the Rev. Jerry Oliver officiating. A calling hour will begin at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Spring burial will take place at Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
