Madeline H. Simonson
Mrs. Madeline H. Simonson, age 86, died Wednesday afternoon, February 5, 2014, at her home in the town of Mayfield, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 11, 1927, in Gloversville, the daughter of the late James and Helen Butler Quant. She attended Cherry Valley High School. She later worked at the former Leon F. Swears Glove Company and retired many years ago.
Madeline was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church, the former Court Mayflower of the Ancient Order of Foresters, the Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Center, Johnstown Women of the Moose, the Even Dozen Club and the Silhouette Card Club.
She was married June 30, 1944, to Herbert T. Simonson, who died November 27, 1997.
Survivors include four children, Gregory A. Simonson (Bernadette Unger) of Gloversville, Arnold W. Simonson (Cathy) of Gloversville, Nancy L. Hulbert (Doug) of Johnstown and Donna M. Simonson (Larry DiMaio) of Gloversville; her brother, Richard Quant (Ellie Smith) of Gloversville; and a sister, Jeanette St. Peter (George) of Gloversville. Madeline also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Lori Hall, Scott Simonson, Arnie Simonson Jr., Doug Hulbert Jr., Marie Ambrosino, Jeff Simonson, Dan Hulbert-Jace, Brenda Marotta, Paul Andrews and Derek Hulbert; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews. Also surviving are a special sister-in-law, Gloria Quant of Schenectady; and an aunt, Emma Simonds of Johnstown.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Ernest Yost, James Quant, Ethel Carpenter and Patricia Knapp.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, February 9, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will take place 10:00 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating.
Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
