Dragons cruise past Hudson Falls, 67-43

GLOVERSVILLE – After dropping a 70-47 decision to Foothills Council champion Scotia-Glenville on Tuesday night, the Gloversville Dragons were ready to get back in the win column.

Hosting Hudson Falls, the Dragons came out on fire, outscoring the Tigers 29-3 in the opening period and cruising to a 67-43 victory Friday night at Gloversville High School.

“We knew we had to come out and play well to show that we can still play with the best of them,” Gloversville co-captain Asa Barnhill said. “We were shooting very well and our defense was on [in the first quarter]. We wanted to get up on them early.”

Barnhill hit three of Gloversville’s six first-quarter 3-pointers as the Dragons opened the game on a 21-0 run.

Christian Henkel broke the scoring drought for Hudson Falls, with his three-point play with 2:14 left in the first quarter.

Gloversville continued its dominance in the period, sinking eight points in the final minute for a 29-3 advantage.

Gloversville coach Mark Lefever shuffled players into the line up during the second period and the Dragons continued to find success. Keyshawn Arnold hit for six of the team’s 14 points in the period to take a 43-8 lead into the locker room at the half.

With the starting five on the court for the opening of the second half, Gloversville continued to stretch its lead as Arnold again hit for six points in the period and Barnhill hit his fourth 3-pointer of the game to help Gloversville take a 59-17 lead into the final eight minutes of play.

Lefever called on his reserves to close out the game and the Tigers’ offense caught fire.

Brody McGuire and Greg MacDuff connected for two 3-pointers apiece as Hudson Falls put up 26 points in the quarter.

Gloversville’s scoring in the final period came on a 3-pointer and a field goal from Tristan Suchy and a 3-pointer by Spencer Satterlee to close out the 67-43 victory.

Barceem Dukes and Arnold finished with a double-doubles for Gloversville. Dukes put together a 15 point, 10 rebounds performance, while Arnold had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Barnhill finished the night with 15 points and two assists.

McGuire paced Hudson Falls (3-10 Foothills) with his 10 point performance, while MacDuff, Matt Connolly and Dalton Hogan finished with six points apiece.

Gloversville (13-4 overall, 10-3 Foothills) will close out its regular season schedule with senior night Tuesday at home against South Glens Falls (2-11 Foothills). Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.

“Tuesday is another big game for us,” Barnhill said. “We need to make sure we shoot well and go out with a victory at home.”
