Thieves stole safe, business says

JOHNSTOWN – The Robison & Smith laundry service on North Perry Street says thieves broke into the building, stole tools and used them to rip out and steal a safe that was

attached to a wall.

City police are investigating the Tuesday theft at the 542 N. Perry St. plant.

Sgt. David Gilbo said the theft occurred around 1:15 a.m. and at least two perpetrators may have been involved.

Matthew Smith, regional service manager for Robison & Smith, said in an email, “The suspect(s) broke into our plant first, stealing tools which were then used to remove a safe that

was secured to the wall and floor. The safe contained deposits from our delivery routes, which consisted mostly of checks.”

He couldn’t say exactly how much may have been in the safe.

Smith said those responsible for the theft entered two exterior doors at the rear of the building by force.

Surveillance video is being analyzed by police. Gilbo on Tuesday wouldn’t release descriptions of the thieves.

“There is not a lot we are going to release when it’s still an active investigation,” he said.

Smith said a $500 cash reward is being offered by Robison & Smith for any information leading to an arrest. People are asked to call the Johnstown Police Department at 736-4021.
