H.S. Wrestling Roundup: C-FP goes 4-1 at Herkimer Duals

HERKIMER – Canajoharie-Fort Plain went 4-1 at the Herkimer Duals on Saturday to win the team title.

Host Herkimer also went 4-1, but Canajoharie-Fort Plain won the title on criteria.

Fonda-Fultonville was 3-2 to place third, while Johnstown was 2-3 and placed fourth. Holland Patent (1-4) was fifth and Mount Markham (0-5) was sixth.

Canajoharie-Fort Plain posted wins over Holland Patent (51-36), Mount Markham (64-18), Johnstown (50-30) and Fonda-Fultonville (55-20). Herkimer handed C-FP its lone loss, prevailing 52-24.

T.J. Hazzard, Anthony Brock and Jordan Griswold all went 5-0 for C-FP, while Jon Payack, Tangen Rush and Ed Rolle went 4-1.

Gordon Trahan for Canajoharie-Fort Plain also went 4-1 and earned his 100th career victory.

Canajoharie-Fort Plain will travel to Green Tech for a non-league match Tuesday.

Lapi, Velazquez win

ALBANY – Brandon Lapi and Chris Velazquez won individual titles Saturday at the Big 10 Invitational at Albany High School.

Lapi won the 138-pound title by pinning Burnt Hills-Ballston lake’s Abdellah Campbell in 1:13. The win was the 253rd of Lapi’s career, matching Brian Benton for first on the all-time list at Amsterdam.

Lapi also was named most outstanding wrestler in the lower weights (99-145 pounds).

Velazquez won the 106-pound title with a technical fall over Shaker’s Matt Spadoni.

Brailin Santana (160 pounds) and Marcus Torres (182) also reached the finals for the Rams, but both lost by pinfall. Santana was pinned by Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s Nate Sisler in 52 seconds, while Torres lost by pinfall to Schalmont’s Nick Gallo.

Chris Garrison (195) and Joe Kelly (220) each placed fourth for Amsterdam, while Jorge Rivera (113) Brian Swank (145) and Mashland Santiago (170) finished sixth.
