Amsterdam boys, girls second at Big 10 meet
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Amsterdam boys and girls indoor track and field teams finished second Sunday at the Big 10 Championships at Williams College.
Albany won the Big 10 girls title with 143 points, while Amsterdam was second with 117 points. Catholic Central (68 points) was third, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons (57) was fourth and Schenectady (38) was fifth.
Christian Brothers Academy won the boys team title with 123 points, while Amsterdam was second with 96 points. Schenectady (86 points), was third (Albany (78) was fourth and LaSalle (40) was fifth.
In the girls meet, Olivia Lazarou won the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:16.96.
Lazarou (3:25.39) also was second in the 1,000 meters for the Lady Rams, while Illenis Quinones (3:36.23) was fifth. Quinones also was fifth in the 1,500 meters (5:36.24) and third in the 3,000 meters (11:53.08).
Amsterdam’s Brenda Santana was second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.93 seconds. Santana also placed fourth in the 300 meters with a time of 47.40 seconds.
In the 600 meters, Caitlyn Adamchick (1:55.69) was fourth for Amsterdam, while Chantel Dopp (1:58.47) was fifth. Dopp also was fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12:11.19.
Hannah Wollman (14-7 1/2) was second in the long jump for the Lady Rams, while Abby Wollman (14-6 1/2) was fourth and Madison Janetsky (14-3 1/2) was fifth.
Janetsky (28-11 1/2) also was second in the triple jump, while McKenna Palczak (28-4) was third.
Palczak (9.97 seconds) also was second in the 55-meter hurdles for Amsterdam.
In the high jump, Janetsky (4-3) was third for the Lady Rams, and Carissa Bottisti (3-6) was fifth.
Amber Richardson was third in the shot put for the Lady Rams with a throw of 28-3.
Amsterdam also placed third in the 4 x 200 relay, fourth in the 4 x 400 relay and second in the 4 x 800 relay.
In the boys meet, Izaiah Brown won three events for Amsterdam.
Brown won the 300 meters, 600 meters and high jump for Amsterdam.
In the 300 meters, Brown posted a time of 35.89 seconds, and in the 600 meters, he won with a time of 1:25.29.
Brown won the long jump with a leap of 5-10.
David Graveley won the 55-meter hurdles for the Rams with a time of 8.50 seconds. Graveley also was fifth in the 300 meters with a time of 38.48 seconds.
Omahri Sturdivant (42-8 3/4) won the triple jump for the Rams.
Julian Gallup (21-1 3/4) was second in the long jump for Amsterdam, while Sturdivant (20-1 1/4) was third.
In the high jump, Jose Perez (5-6) was second for the Rams, while Edgar Maldonado (5-3) was fourth.
Lucas Dorr (6.99 seconds) was fifth in the 55-meter dash for Amsterdam, Gabe Fernandez (1:35.27) was sixth in the 600 meters, and Ryan Farley (6-6) was fourth in the pole vault
Amsterdam also was fourth in the 4 x 200 relay, third in the 4 x 400 relay and fifth in the 4 x 800 relay.
