Catholic Schools Week events slated

AMSTERDAM – St. Mary’s Institute will kick off its annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week today.

The festivities begin today with a pancake breakfast and open house at the school located off Upper Church Street. This event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the public. Guests are invited to a breakfast of pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, home fries and beverage at a cost of $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 4 to12. The breakfast will also feature a bake sale, SMI merchandise and a 50-50 raffle. Tickets will be available at the door.

Monday is Student Appreciation Day and all grades will participate in a classroom door-decorating contest. On Tuesday, SMI will host Grandparents’ Day from 8 a.m. to noon. Wednesday is Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day and students will participate in service projects created by their teachers. Thursday will find SMI decked out in blue with the introduction of School Spirit Crazy Blue Day. On Friday Liturgy will be celebrated at 8:15 a.m. in the gymnasium. The public is welcome to attend. Friday evening, the weeks’ festivities will conclude with students and their families attending Family Fun Night.

St. Mary’s Institute serves students from early childhood through eighth grade of all religious, racial, ethnic and income backgrounds. SMI offers full-time programs for 3, 4 and 5-year-olds.
