Employee sues Stewart’s Shops

WATERTOWN – Stewart’s Shops is being sued by an employee who claims the company breaks state and federal laws on wages and hours.

Holly Gregory, individually and on behalf of all others “similarly situatited,” filed a lawsuit against Stewart’s Shops Corp. on Jan. 9.

Gergory claims the company fails to pay workers for all hours worked, fails to pay the State and Federal minimum wage, and also willfully violates New York State Law for mandatory meal breaks, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit claims the company did not pay for hours worked while closing the store, policy dictating she must be out of work by 11:45 p.m., while she would end up working to 12:30 or 1 a.m without pay. Attempts to bring this up to her superiors resulted in her being told she would not be compensated for the time.

The lawsuit seems damages for the differences between the full hourly wage, as well asreimbusement for other failings on behalf of Stewarts.
