King, Ossenfort honored as GOP Rising Stars

A pair of local Republicans were honored Tuesday in Albany at the Republican Rising Stars Reception organized by the Republican Party of New York State.

The event held at the Fort Orange Club honored both Gloversville Mayor Dayton King and Montgomery County Executive Matt Ossenfort, who both were honored as rising stars within the Republican Party.

They were among 20 Republican officials recognized at the event, which is designed to raise money for the party as well as highlight the younger Republican candidates who may take the reigns of the political party in the future, said Communication Director of the New York Republican State Committee David Laska.

There were more than 100 people in attendance, including state Sen. Hugh T. Farley, Assemblyman Marc Butler and Elise Stefanik, who is one of the candidates seeking the party’s nomination for the 21st Congressional?District seat.

“It was a recognition that the people in the room are the future of the party,” Laska said. “2013 was a fantastic year for the Republican party. We swept all seven county executive seats that were up, so we really have a great bench of up and coming and in many cases young elected leaders who are the future of the Republican party in New York.”

He said they were selected based on their actions on the local level and skills that show the great future of the party.

Both King and Ossenfort were pleased to be honored and recognized by the Republican Party.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as someone who is a rising star and has potential to run for a state office in the future,” King said. “I appreciate the kind words by Chairman Ed Cox as well as Senator Farley and others in attendance. We’ll keep doing our best for our communities and focus on jobs and lowering the tax rate.”

“The Republican brand is looking for new candidates or younger candidates who can put a new face to the Republican Party moving forward,” Ossenfort said. “It was an event to showcase some of the younger faces and it certainly is nice to be a part of.”
