Lawrence P. Carling

Mr. Lawrence P. Carling, 78, of Mayfield, passed away unexpectedly on January 19, 2014, at his residence. Lawrence was born July 18, 1935, in New York City and educated there. He was the son of the late John and Antoinette Rzeholsky Carling. His father passed away when Lawrence was a toddler and he was subsequently raised by his mother and stepfather, Joseph Gomes. Lawrence served his country in the Navy from 1952-1956, actively participating in the Korean War, also serving in the Reserves for two years.

A jack of all trades, Lawrence worked at various area businesses, including Van Evera’s auto sales, the town of Broadalbin and Mohawk Finishing. He enjoyed watching boxing matches on television and was an accomplished wood carver. He was a member of the VFW in Broadalbin and a lifelong animal lover. Lawrence raised pigeons for years and always considered his dogs his best friends. He will surely be missed by his dog, Puppy, who was his companion the past few years.

Lawrence was first married to Florence Abdullah and subsequently to Barbara Ann Flannery, who predeceased him.

He is survived by his children, John Carling (Joleen) of San Diego, CA, Lawrence Carling (Rosie) of New York City, Joy Anne Carling of Toms River, N.J. and Diane LaVada and her fiance David Blackwood of Mayfield.

Lawrence is also survived by his eight grandchildren, John Carling, Joseph Carling, Anthony Gibson, Dominic Villanueva, JaeDee LaVada, Jesse LaVada, Jennie LaVada and Josie LaVada. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Carling.

There will be no calling hours or services. Private inurnment at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, will take place at the convenience of his family.
