JHS alpine skiers compete at Gore
NORTH CREEK – The Johnstown alpine ski team competed Monday at the Shenendehowa Invitational at Gore Mountain.
The boys placed eighth in the two-run event with a total of 154 points, while the girls were fourth with a total of 113 points.
Saratoga Springs won the boys team title with a total of 30 points, while Queensbury was second with 41.5 points.
Shenendehowa won the girls team title with a total of 29 points, while Queensbury was second with 40 points.
In the girls race, Sara Kosowicz led Johnstown, placing sixth in the first run with a time of 1:19.10.
Shenendehowa’s Julia Smith posted the fastest first-run time with a 1:13.73, while Queensbury’s Katie Zilka (1:14.71) was second.
Serena Smith (1:28.42) was 19th for Johnstown, while Reilly Kotwasinki (1:30.87) was 25th. Emily Havlicek (1:36.77) was 30th for the Lady Bills, Whitney Western (1:41.91) was 36th, Chloe Salisbury (2:10.15) was 44th and Payton Sardella did not finish the first run.
Kosowicz also placed sixth in the second run for Johnstown, finishing with a time of 1:24.97.
As she did in the first run, Shenendehowa’s Julia Smith posted the top time with a 1:21.29, while Albany Academy’s Ellie Daly was second with a 1:21.97.
Kotwasinki (1:36.65) was 27th for the Lady Bills, while Serena Smith (1:36.98) was 30th. Havlicek (1:44.07) was 40th for Johnstown, Western (1:46.81) was 48th, Salisbury (2:22.76) was 53rd and Saradella did not finish.
In the boys race, Saratoga Springs’ Ian Hauser posted the fastest time in the first run with a 1:10.12. Niskayuna’s Ned Feist (1:10.16) was second and Saratoga Springs’ Kiernan Mottau (1:10.19) was third.
Johnstown’s Lukas Levin (1:19.19) was 20th, while Nick Salatel (1:20.03) was 22nd. Patrick Fleming (1:26.36) was 34th for the Sir Bills, Zack Szurek (1:27.89) was 36th, Sam Bobbette (1:27.16) was 35th, Noah Western (1:31.97) was 42nd and Zack Simone (1:32.59) was 44th.
In the second run, Mottau posted the fastest time with a 1:15.39.
Feist was second with a 1:16.21, while Stillwater’s Theo Korenowski (1:17.44) was third.
Salatel led Johnstown, placing 19th with a time of 1:25.53. Levin (1:26.94) was 26th for the Sir Bills, while Trevor Day (1:31.64) was 33rd.
Szurek (1:31.79) was 34th for Johnstown, Jon Bearden (1:40.36) was 42nd, Austin Stergas (1:41.26) was 46th and Fleming did not finish.
