Couple celebrates 50th anniversary
John P. and Marion (Gahr) Sira of Broadalbin recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Sam’s Seafood & Steakhouse in Johnstown.
They were married on Dec. 25, 1963, in West Galway at the home of Marion Sira’s aunt. Henry Sira of Horseheads, Chemung County, was the best man, and Billie Lee Stewart of Gloversville was the matron of honor. The couple met when the former Marion Gahr was a night telephone operator at New York Telephone and John Sira and his “buddies” brought doughnuts on their night patrols.
John Sira is a retired state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigator and Marion Sira is a retired school bus driver for the Broadalbin-Perth School District.
They have three children: Susan DeRocker (Ron) of Broadalbin, John Sira Jr. (Louise) of Northville and Rebecca Sira (Shawn) of Johnstown. They have six grandsons: Cameron and Garrison DeRocker; Jeremiah, John and Wyatt Sira; and Darrien Sira. They are expecting their first great-grandchild in March.
