Rose Marie Simonson

Rose Marie “Shorty” Simonson, 69, of Johnstown, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2014, at her home. She was born August 3, 1944, in Gloversville, daughter of the late Gerald and Martha Splawnick Mills. She was educated in Gloversville schools and employed most of her life at the former MCA. She had also worked for a time at Wal-Mart, Lexington and McDonald’s. Shorty, as she was affectionately known, was a long time N.Y. Yankee fan and a devoted Pittsburgh Steeler fan as well as cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. She loved to cook, she loved her pets and she loved Elvis! She will be sadly missed by her dear family and many friends.

Shorty is survived by her children, Lori A. Hall (James C. Kilmartin) of Ephratah and Scott A. Simonson (Stacy) of Gloversville. She is also survived by her siblings, Donna Roberts (Chuck) of Alabama, Judy Willet (Joe) of Arkansas and John Mills of Gloversville. She leaves her dear grandchildren: Zachary A. Hall; Shelby L. Hall and her fiance Jake Adams, whom she is to marry May 10, 2014; Tara M. Kilmartin; and Jordan T. Amos. Shorty is further survived by the father of her children, Gregory A. Simonson Sr. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Rachael Smith, a brother, Thomas Mills, and her partner of twenty-five years, Phyllis Russell.

A memorial service will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. The family will receive friends for memorial visitation on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. prior to the service.
