James LaVada

Mr. James LaVada, 74, of Mayfield, passed away January 17, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam. He was born May 24, 1939, in Gloversville, son of the late Peter and Dora Stoutner LaVada. James was educated in Broadalbin schools and served in the Navy. In addition to his active duty service, he was also a fifteen year member of the Navy Reserves and was deployed during Desert Storm.

James was an avid reader and enjoyed playing solitaire. Devoted to his loving family, he especially loved his grandchildren and enjoyed sporting events with them. Hard working his entire life, James was employed by N.Y.S. DOT at the Canal System where he was a heavy equipment operator for many years.

He is survived by his wife Yvonne Brooks LaVada of Mayfield whom he married March 26, 1960. He is also survived by his children; JoAnn Behringer and her spouse Richard of Mt. Pleasant, SC, James H. LaVada and his fiance Lisa Hazzard and her son Kolby Spraker of Mayfield, Tom LaVada and his spouse Tanya and Connie Graham and her spouse Joe. James is also survived by two brothers; Larry LaVada of Oregon and his twin brother John LaVada, of Mayfield. James leaves his grandchildren: Tamara LaVada, Justin LaVada, Jordan Behringer, Cody LaVada, Nicholas Behringer, Todd Graham, Nikki Graham, Brandon Behringer, Tristan LaVada and Lindsey Behringer, as well as several nieces, nephews and his dog Harley. He was predeceased by a sister Vivian Manzer and a brother Dave LaVada with whom he was very close.

There will be no calling hours or service. Private inurnment at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, will take place at the convenience of his family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
