Winter Wimp race slated for Saturday
HAGAMAN – The Fulmont Roadrunners Club’s annual Winter Wimp foot race will be held “snow or shine” Saturday at 1 p.m.
This will be the 28th running of the race, at which competitors may run 2.2 or 4.4 miles (one or two loops around the Hagaman course).
The Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department again will host the event, with registration at the firehouse at 126 S. Pawling St. in the village.
Awards will be presented to the first three finishers, male and female, in both the 2.2- and 4.4-mile races, and to the top three male and female finishers in the 4.4 miler in nine age divisions, including 80-and-older.
There also will be raffle prizes and a special award for the first female finisher 60 years of age or older honoring the memory of long-time Fulmont Roadrunner Kay Guere.
The first 200 runners to sign up are guaranteed long-sleeve dri-tech T-shirts.
Following the races, there will be soup, pizza, fruit and hot and cold beverages for all runners and their guests.
Highlighting the post-race ceremonies will be presentation of the Fulmont Roadrunners’ annual cross country runner of the year awards to the top male and female runners in Fulton and Montgomery county high schools.
Copies of the registration form may be downloaded from the club website at www.fmrrc.org. They also are available from race director Rick Vertucci (857-9025).
The pre-registration fee will be $18 for members and $20 for non-members, with a portion of the proceeds going to the club’s Dern Memorial Scholarship for college-committed high school runners in their senior years.
Race-day registration is $25 for all and will be permitted until 12:30 p.m.
