H.S. Wrestling Roundup: Johnstown, FFCS compete at Rockwood Tournament
GALWAY – Adirondack picked up three championships en route to capturing the team title at the annual Greg Rockwood Memorial Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Galway High School.
Adirondack beat runner-up Schalmont 214.5-201 for the championship, while host Galway edged Salem 130-129.5 for third place.
Johnstown finished 11th in the 14-team tournament with 60 points and Fonda-Fultonville was 14th with 29 points.
Adirondack’s Derek Spann won the 113-pound championship and was named the tournaments lightweight M.O.W and 285 pound champion Nick Scott was selected as the heavyweight M.O.W.
Schalmont’s Marcus Ramundo recorded the fastest pin of the day with a 15-second fall in the 285-pound preliminaries.
Steven Colbert (145) and Dillan Palazewski (99) claimed championships for the host Golden Eagles, while Jordan Sartin (120) was second.
Johnstown’s Austin Brand placed second at 182, while Ethan Hale placed fourth at 220.
Kyle Gray was the top finisher for Fonda-Fultonville with his fourth-place finish at 113 pounds.

Leo J.?Sammon Tournament
ILION – Richard Lyon and Kasey Foster picked up wins for Dolgeville at the Leo J. Sammon Jr. tournament at Central Valley.
Lyon won the 160-pound championship with an overtime victory over Rome Free Academy’s Brian Stapleton in the semifinals and a tech fall over Central Valley’s Tim Rathbun in the championship match.
Foster pinned his way through the tournament for the 182-pound crown. Foster recorded pins over Norwich’s Jacob Perone and Brett Barns of Rome Free Academy to reach the finals. In the title match he pinned Central Valley Academy’s Zakk Zuranski in 3:37.
Triston Engle placed second in the 170-pound classification, falling to Indian River’s Sonny McPherson in the finals by a 6-4 decision. Noah Handy was runner-up at 120 pounds falling to Rome Free Academy’s Dandre Norman on an 8-5 decision.
Benjamin Nastovski advanced to the 145-pound finals before being decisioned 5-3 by Central Valley Academy’s John Mazza.
Ian Nagle placed third at 152 pounds and Steven Gross was fourth at 126 pounds.
