Vote yes for our children

My three children were educated in the Northville Central School District. They all received a quality education, which included many course offerings and extracurricular activities. It breaks my heart to know that the present Northville students are not receiving the same benefits my children did.

Every child deserves the best our schools can offer. Northville has excellent teachers who are working under budgetary constraints that have caused many positive school aspects to be cut. Young children who struggle with academics can find support in art and music; however, these subjects have been greatly reduced. Some sixth-grade students have three study halls a day. Our high school students need many varied, challenging courses and extracurricular activities to prepare them for college or the work force.

Change is never easy. Concerns have been voiced about transportation, community cohesiveness and taxes. There are no definite answers to these questions. Life is never certain. Do you know what the price of gas will be next year?

Having worked in education for more than 30 years, I can say with confidence those involved in the education of our children were in it for the right reasons. I truly believe if the merger between Northville and Mayfield is achieved, the educators involved will do their utmost to provide the best possible educational environment for the students living in both communities.

A “yes” vote on Tuesday is a “yes” vote for our children.
