Thomas R. Gasner

Thomas R. Gasner, 81, of County Highway 132, town of Perth, died at home on Sunday afternoon, December 22, 2013.

He was born in Gloversville on June 10, 1932, the youngest of seven children to Archie and Mary Johnston Gasner and was a 1950 graduate of Broadalbin High School. Tom proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-55.

Mr. Gasner was employed at General Electric Co. in Schenectady for thirty six years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church in Hagaman.

Tom was a former member of the Kennyetto Fire Company, the Sacandaga Boat Club, the North Broadalbin Beach Club, and Mary Ann’s 29ers Snowmobile Club. Mr. Gasner was also a former member of the Planning Board in Perth.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 337 in Broadalbin, the Perth Seniors, the GE Quarter Century Club, and the Scotch Church Emporium.

Tom loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and being on the lake in his canoe and boat. He traveled cross country three times with his wife and their fifth wheel camper, enjoying every mile. Tom was gifted in woodworking and along with his brothers, built many things. One project that he was proud of was building the covered bridge at Eagle Mills with his brother John. Tom also enjoyed attending sporting events that his children and grandchildren participated in. He enjoyed monthly luncheons with his retired GE friends. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, with family trips and gatherings.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Thomas A. Gasner. In addition to his parents and son, he was predeceased by his brothers, Clarence, Burton, John, Clayton, James, and George.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine S. Watrobski Gasner, whom he married on June 25, 1976; two sons, Russell Gasner of Jacksonville, FL and Peter Watrobski of Perth; two daughters, Kathleen Gasner of Houston, TX and Gayle (David) Botelho of Essex Junction, VT; a sister-in-law, Ruby Gasner of Zephyrhills, FL; six grandchildren, Jaclyn Gasner of Gloversville, Adrianna and Cody Watrobski of Perth, and Jake, Brady, and Dylan Botelho of Essex Junction, VT; several nieces and nephews; two cousins, Diane Graziano and Shirley Craig; and his beloved dog, Roxie.

Cremation will be performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 and Black Street) Johnstown. A prayer service will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Stanley Swierzowski officiating. Final burial will take place in the spring at Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Perth Volunteer Fire Company, in care of the funeral home.
