Gloria J. Moore
Gloria J. Moore, 80, of Fort Plain, New York, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Little Falls Hospital with her loving family by her side.
She was born on November 4, 1933, in Palatine Bridge, NY, a daughter of the late Orville and Esther (Geer) Bailey. Gloria attended Fort Plain Central School. She was formerly employed by P and K Dress Factory in Little Falls, NY, as a seamstress. In later years, Gloria was the owner of a private business in North Carolina until her retirement in the 1990s.
Gloria married Robert D. VanHeusen with whom she raised four children. At one time she was also married to James E. Moore of Williamston, NC. She shared her final blessed years with her longtime companion, Hadley H. Dillenbeck.
She was of the Methodist faith. Gloria was a member of the Moose Club, Chapter 987 of Canajoharie, NY and a member of the AmVets 2000 Post, Fort Plain, NY.
Gloria enjoyed playing cards, playing pool, collecting dishes, antiques and going to garage sales. In earlier years, Gloria raced go carts and was the first woman in New York state to win a go cart race championship. She also raced snowmobiles where she also won state championships in the Powder Puff category.
Gloria is survived by her beloved companion, Hadley H. Dillenbeck of Fort Plain, NY; her four loving children, Morris D. VanHeusen Sr. and his companion, Terry Page of Charleston Four Corners, NY, Robert D. VanHeusen Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Palatine Bridge, NY, Janet L. VanValkenburgh and her husband, Ronald of Stratford, NY, and Joyce E. Boyer and her husband, Joe of Dolgeville, NY; a special sister, Dawn Santmyer and her husband, Robert of Dolgeville, NY; many special grandchildren and cherished great-grandchildren; and her extended family from Northville, NY.
She was predeceased by her cherished sisters, Edna Lynch, Shirley Atty and Lola Slater.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York. A memorial service will be held immediately following calling hours on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at 6 p.m., with the Rev. R.W. Williams, pastor officiating. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery at a later date.
Gloria’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Little Falls Hospital, especially the Third Floor East, for the kind and compassionate care that was shown to Gloria and her family during her stay with them.
