WAC unveils volleyball All-Stars

Several area players were among those honored on the recently announced Western Athletic Conference volleyball all-star team.

Mayfield, Fort Plain, Canajoharie and Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville combined for a total of 10 league all-stars.

Galway’s Emily Zawisa was named the WAC Overall Most Valuable Player and North Division MVP. Joining Zawisa on the first team from Galway was Emily Orminski, who was named Most Valuable Setter along with Mayfield’s Mackenzie Biggers.

Mayfield’s Miranda Eagan also was named to the North Division first team. She also was named Most Valuable Hitter for the Panthers, who went 15-4 overall and 12-2 in WAC play.

Galway’s Brittany Orminski was named Most Valuable Defender and a second-team North Division all-star.

Fort Plain’s Shawna Cotton also was named a first-team North Division all-star, along with Saratoga Catholic’s Liza Orsini.

Adrianna Watrobski and Rachel Jones were named second-team North Division all-stars for Galway, which won the WAC North Division title.

Also named to the second team were Mayfield’s Kaylee Bumpus, Fort Plain’s Emily Potter and Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville’s Katie Pabis.

Canajoharie’s Shyanna Logan was named the WAC South Division Most Valuable Player and a first-team all-star.

She was joined on the South Division first team by teammates Shelby Mead and Abbey Dearwester. Dearwester also was named Most Valuable Hitter.

Also named to the South Division first team were Duanesburg’s Rachel Gamache, Schoharie’s Grace Gathen and Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Shannon Stone.

Emma Stortecky was named a second-team South Division all-star for Canajoharie, which won the WAC South title, went 13-4 overall and 12-3 in league play.

Also named to the South Division second team were Schoharie’s Emily Pieniazek, Duanesburg’s Katy Dunn, Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Kathryn Salo, Mekeel Christian Academy’s Victoria Alteri and Middleburgh’s Jenna Brown.

Pieniazek also was named the South Division’s Most Valuable Setter, while Dunn was named Most Valuable Defender.
