Henry F. Setlock

Henry “Hank” F. Setlock, age 86, of Kaulfuss Road, Lake Pleasant, died Friday December 13, 2013, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville. He was born on February 5, 1927, in Garfield, NJ.

The son of the late Henry and Mary Sudol Setlock, he grew up in Clifton, NJ, and attended Clifton Schools. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving from 1944 to 1946. He served in the Pacific Theatre Okinawa campaign on a destroyer, the USS Kidd. His ship on April 11, 1945, was hit by a Japanese kamikaze plane, killing 38 of the crew members. He was the owner and operator of Henry’s Allwood Garage in Clifton, NJ, for thirty years.

He belonged to the VFW Post 7228 in Lake Pleasant where he was a post commander for three years. He was a member of St. James Major Roman Catholic Church in Lake Pleasant where he was an usher for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lois Dutcher Setlock of Lake Pleasant; two daughters, Gail Setlock of Chestertown and Karen and her husband Thomas Goemaat of Wellesley, MA; three grandchildren, Michael Goemaat, Andrew Goemaat and Peter Goemaat; two brothers in law, Roy Pitcher of Wayne, NJ, and Matthew Beattie of Hoffmeister, NY. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Eleanor Pitcher and Rose Devekis, and his nephew,Walter Devekis.

Friends may call on Wednesday December 18, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday December 19, 2013, at the St. James Major Roman Catholic Church on Rt. 8, Lake Pleasant, at 11 a.m. Burial will be held in Fish Mountain Cemetery, Lake Pleasant, NY, in the spring.
